There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is illegal. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a generally small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 1700, and though visas are allegedly required to pass, there are methods around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.

The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel compound that features numerous luxuries in addition to the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 gaming tables.
